Job Title: Associate Director, Total Rewards & HR Operations

Overview of Role:

The Associate Director, of Total Rewards & HR Operations will have a high-level HR generalist background with at-least 5 or more years’ experience in total rewards, to include benefit and compensation as well as experience in HR Operations. The role will be responsible for supporting various business needs including comprehensive total rewards programs, HR policies, HR systems, programs and initiatives, and ensuring that all align with business priorities and provide the best possible employee experience.

Role and Responsibilities:

Total Rewards (Compensation and Benefits)

  • In partnership with HR leadership, the Associate Director, Total Reward and HR Operations will manage the development, implementation and administration of global compensation and benefit programs
  • Monitors the effectiveness of compensation practices and benefit offerings. Recommends changes that are cost-effective and consistent with trends, supportive of corporate objectives, and attractive to employees
  • Supports and maintains compensation structures, ensuring competitiveness with market trends
  • Manages and administers the annual compensation planning process, to include merit, bonus and equity plan administration
  • Suggests creative solutions to specific compensation and benefit programs and incentive plans. Helps evaluate and renew benefit plans annually.
  • Manages the entire open enrollment process, coordinating with vendors to ensure effective employee education and communication
  • Leverages technology and oversees interface file feeds, partnering with IT and external vendors to ensure employee information is transferred accurately
  • Reconciles monthly benefit invoices
  • Manages the 401(k) plan and supports the 401(k) committee.
  • Manages the Family Medical Leave process, to ensure compliance, employee communication and appropriate leave tracking
  • Helps develop benefit policies, to include, but not limited to, tuition reimbursement, PTO policies and leave policies
  • Participates in annual salary surveys and monitors salary survey data to ensure corporate compensation objectives are achieved
  • Prepares and presents employee education of benefits programs such as insurance plans, 401(k), life and special employer-sponsored plans
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, government, and local compensation and benefit laws and regulations, including benefit audits and 5500 filings

HR Operations Responsibilities

  • Own and manage HR metrics, to include monthly, quarterly and annual reporting Provides project leadership in implementing new processes, policies and workflows across all HR systems and HR operations
  • Develop the “AI in HR strategy” to evaluate day-to-day work across HR and determines how to drive a more productive employee and customer experience
  • Rewrite and revamp HR policies and procedures in compliance with employment laws and in alignment with Summit’s core values
  • Serve as change management champion for systems and processes, facilitating and communicating HR process and policy updates and changes
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, using technology to streamline and standardize processes and policies while improving efficiencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field; preferred
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in Life Sciences/ Pharmaceuticals or Medical Device
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in Total Rewards specifically compensation and benefits
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • US benefit and compensation expertise required
  • OUS Benefit and compensation experience a plus
  • Strong understanding of benefit and leave laws throughout the United States
  • Experience with change initiatives, process improvement and or simplification initiatives
  • Experience with grade structures and wage bands; experience evaluating job and determining grade level of role based on work
  • Solid understanding of HR processes, data management and their impact on HR systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to evaluate, design, implement, and administer health benefits, retirement plans, leaves of absence, accommodations, worker compensation and wellness programs through the U.S. and globally
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and deep ability to understand what motivates others
  • Exceptional organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize actions
  • Proven track record of developing, managing, and evaluating various components of incentive plans
  • Must be willing to work in office 3-4 days per week
  • Strong leadership skills

The pay range for this role will vary depending on location. Pay range for Menlo Park, CA area $160-$190,000 annually. Pay range for all other locations: $150 -$175,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. The total compensation package for this position may also include bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable variable compensation.
